For a 29th Year, Dragons Race in Queens Waters

The ancient poet Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River in China. He was protesting the policies of the emperor. Fishermen failed to save him, but they honor him by racing dragon boats.

More than 2,000 years later, golden-headed dragon boats lined up in Flushing Meadows Park in Queens over the weekend. Over 200 teams competed this year at the 29th annual Dragon Boat Festival, a record.
